This position will provide support and assistance in the delivery of a range of recreation and open space projects arising primarily from Council’s Recreation Strategy, Open Space Strategy and Parks Master Plans. This will also involve stakeholder management and consultation, providing technical and field support, seeking grant funding opportunities, providing operational support and administering procedural systems in support of the Active Communities Unit and Recreation and Open Space Development Unit.

The role will:
- Scope and manage short-term planning and operational recreation and open space projects arising from Councillor, community and stakeholder requests.
- Evaluate and process requests from key stakeholders such as Sporting Clubs, Parkland Advisory Committees and Community Gardens requesting the development of recreational facilities and parks.
- Provide technical support to the Active Communities Unit and Recreation and Open Space Development Unit by attending site meetings, completing contract reports and report findings to senior members of both Units.
- Administer procedural systems for the liaison and management of key stakeholder groups and committees such as Parkland Advisory Committees and Whitehorse Sport and Recreation Network including volunteer recruitment.
- Liaise with and facilitate partnerships with stakeholders in the provision of planning and operational recreation and open space projects.

To be successful, you will have:
• Tertiary qualifications in Leisure/Recreation, Horticulture or Environmental Science or other related field.
• Experience in project management and demonstrated ability to prioritise and deliver a number of projects on time in a busy and demanding role.
• Highly developed communication, customer service and stakeholder management skills including knowledge of and experience with working with community groups such as sporting clubs, parkland advisory committees or similar.
• Experience in the preparation and management of funding applications for recreation and open space project initiatives or similar.
• Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively and show initiative in a team environment.
